Exploring a Life Plan Community for the next
generation of kūpuna
Emerald Communities and the Luana Kai board share a vision: to create a nonprofit Life Plan Community in Hawaiʻi that provides older adults with access to high quality housing, healthcare, and lifelong opportunities for engagement, wellness, and purpose.
As Hawaiʻi’s population continues to age, the need for comprehensive senior living options has never been greater. Families across the islands are seeking solutions that allow loved ones to maintain independence while providing access to additional care and support when needed.
Our goal is to help meet that need through a Life Plan Community model designed to support residents throughout every stage of aging.
While we continue to explore locations and opportunities, our commitment remains clear: to help create a future where Hawaiʻi’s older adults have access to a nonprofit Life Plan Community that reflects the values of service, community, wellness, and respect.

Giving back is part of our DNA. At Emerald Communities, we believe thriving communities are built through service, generosity, and meaningful partnerships. Since 2020, we have contributed more than $1.5 million to local nonprofit organizations across Washington State, supporting initiatives that strengthen lives and communities. In 2023, we also donated $50,000 to support Maui wildfire relief efforts through the Salvation Army’s Hawaii Division and $5,000 to the Lunalilo Foundation in Honolulu. As a mission-driven organization, we remain committed to creating a positive impact both within our communities and beyond.
