Creating Communities
of People, for People.

Each day at Emerald Communities, we strive to create communities that exceed the wants and needs of older adults—both today and well into the future. This singular focus guides us in every aspect of our organization.

Purpose & Values

To support aging with confidence, we create exceptional environments and experiences where residents, staff and community members thrive.

We fulfill our purpose in alignment with our core values of Integrity, Courage, Trust, Compassion and Respect.

Not-For-Profit

30+ years. One vision.

In 1992, Emerald Heights opened its doors in Redmond, Washington, and the dream for a better kind of retirement living became reality.

It all started with the forward-thinking vision of one man. Whitney Corwin, who lived in the Bellevue area, became familiar with the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) model and was impressed with everything it had to offer. But the closest CCRCs were in Seattle, and all with long waiting lists.

So, Corwin conceived and championed the idea of creating a CCRC to serve older adults on the Eastside of Seattle. He recruited fellow board members, and they worked tirelessly for nearly 10 years to find the ideal location and secure financing for Emerald Heights.

From vision to reality.

Emerald Heights now has more than 550 residents and is expanding to meet the evolving lifestyles of older adults of today…and for generations to come. Plus, in 2017, Emerald Communities opened our newest CCRC, Heron’s Key at Gig Harbor.

Through 30 years of learning, evolving and success, we still firmly believe that it’s the people—the residents, board and staff — who have made Emerald Communities what it is today.
