The Next Chapter Begins
At Heron’s Key in Gig Harbor, our residents are living proof that life doesn’t slow down after retirement—it gets more exciting! Take Rick Bleiweiss, for example. Rick, his wife Deborah Morgan, and their adorable Havanese dog, Gracie, recently made Heron’s Key their home. Rick’s story is one of reinvention, creativity, and passion—a perfect example of the dynamic, fulfilling lifestyles our community fosters.
A Star-Studded Career in Music
Before trading the spotlight for the serene beauty of Gig Harbor, Rick had a legendary career in the music industry. As a performer, Grammy-nominated producer, and senior executive at iconic record labels, he collaborated with music legends like Clint Black, Donna Summer, The Village People, Yes, and U2. Rick also helped launch the careers of stars such as Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, and Melissa Etheridge.
But Rick didn’t stop there. He transitioned from music to the literary world, proving that it’s never too late to pursue new dreams.
Reinventing Life as an Award-Winning Author
Now in his 70s, Rick is an award-winning author and book publisher. His historical mystery series featuring Chief Inspector Pignon Scorbion has captured readers’ hearts worldwide. His debut novel, Pignon Scorbion & the Barbershop Detectives, became an Amazon bestseller in five categories and won multiple domestic and international awards.
Rick’s second book, Murder in Haxford, continued the series’ success, and he’s hard at work on the third installment. He also recently earned the 2024 Career Changers Award, recognizing his remarkable pivot from music executive to bestselling novelist at age 77.
“I was both surprised and honored to receive this award,” Rick shares. “To me, it’s a testament to staying active and involved, no matter your age. Heron’s Key has been instrumental in keeping me motivated and inspired. The vibrant community here, filled with talented and accomplished individuals, is an incredible source of energy.”
A Life Fueled by Passion and Perseverance
Rick’s mantra, “Go for it and make it happen,” reflects his lifelong determination. Whether writing song lyrics, publishing books, or producing records, Rick has always embraced challenges with enthusiasm.
His advice? “Don’t let age hold you back. If you have the energy, interest, and passion, keep chasing your dreams.”
At Heron’s Key, stories like Rick’s are the norm, not the exception. Our residents thrive in a community that encourages them to stay curious, creative, and connected.
